About the Academy

The Sydney Thunder T20 Development Academy is designed for young cricketers aged 10–16 who want to improve their skills and take their game to the next level.

Built on the principles, curriculum and standards of our elite BBL and WBBL teams, the Academy provides players with the coaching, knowledge and experience needed to develop their skills and compete at the highest level of T20 cricket.

Players train under the guidance of experienced Sydney Thunder T20 Youth Academy coaches at leading cricket training facilities across Sydney. Sessions cover batting, bowling, fielding, game awareness and mental resilience.

More than technical development, the Academy helps players become confident, resilient and well-rounded cricketers who can make smart decisions, perform under pressure and take ownership of their development.

Who Is the Academy For?

The Sydney Thunder T20 Development Academy is designed for players aged 10–16 who are motivated to improve their game and take their cricket to the next level.

The program is particularly suited to:

• Returning Academy participants looking to build on the skills and knowledge gained in previous programs.
• Players with previous representative cricket experience who are ready to further develop their technique, tactical awareness and understanding of T20 cricket.

Our aim is to provide a challenging and supportive environment for players committed to improving their performance and developing their potential.

Sydney Thunder T20 Development Academy Program Hubs
In 2027, our Thunder Hubs will be based at two outstanding facilities: the world‑class Cricket Central in Silverwater and the newly opened Raby Indoor Cricket Centre in Campbelltown.

Programs at Cricket Central will run on Monday and Wednesday evenings, while programs at Raby Indoor Cricket Centre will take place on Monday evenings.

*All Programs run from 6-8pm.

Holistic Player Development

At the Sydney Thunder T20 Development Academy, player development is about more than runs and wickets. Our holistic approach helps young cricketers become confident, resilient and well-rounded players who can perform under pressure, think strategically and take responsibility for their development.

• Technical skills: Improving batting, bowling and fielding.
• Game awareness: Developing tactical understanding and decision-making.
• Mental resilience: Building confidence, composure and the ability to perform under pressure.
• Physical preparation: Developing the physical foundations required for cricket.
• Personal development: Encouraging leadership, accountability and a growth mindset.

By combining expert coaching, modern training methods and practical game-based learning, the Academy supports player development on and off the field.

Program Format

The Sydney Thunder T20 Development Academy runs for six weeks per school term, with one two-hour session each week. Sessions combine practical training and theoretical learning to develop players' skills, knowledge and understanding of the game.

With a 1:6 coach-to-participant ratio, every player benefits from personalised coaching, individual feedback and support throughout their development.

Program formats include male-only, mixed and female-only options, providing flexibility for different players and pathways.

Coaching Excellence

The Academy is delivered by a handpicked panel of Sydney Thunder T20 Youth Academy coaches under the guidance of Academy Director Sarah Coyte.

The coaching team combines professional experience with a passion for youth development, helping players improve their technique, build confidence and learn how to prepare and train with purpose.

Inspiration from the Pros

Participants have opportunities to learn from Sydney Thunder special guests and professional players, who share their experiences, preparation, decision-making and insights into the demands of the professional game.

Training Beyond the Field

Player development continues beyond each training session. Participants can access additional learning content, videos, articles and workshops, alongside opportunities to learn from Sydney Thunder guests and professional players.

Every participant receives a Sydney Thunder T20 Development Academy training kit designed by New Balance, including:

• Training shirt
• Training shorts
• Academy cap

Participants can also purchase additional Academy apparel, including a Thunder Academy hoodie and long pants.
